1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This is such a beautiful reminder to be grateful at all times!
We try to be grateful people. We want to give thanks in everything, but let’s be honest, an annual holiday helps us to focus on giving thanks! This November at Euless First United Methodist Church we will be looking to the lectionary and taking time to give thanks!
There’s a growing body of research on the benefits of gratitude. Studies have found that giving thanks and counting blessings can help people sleep better, lower stress and improve interpersonal relationships. Earlier this year, a study found that keeping a gratitude journal decreased materialism and bolstered generosity among adolescents. However, too much gratitude can backfire.
Being thankful does not take away pain or suffering, but helps us to see hope. We hope this holiday season that you are able to find the hope of gratitude. We also hope that you will find the health benefits of being grateful in whatever form works for you.
Finally, we hope you will join us as we look toward our future and in everything, give thanks!
