What is the recipe for a disciple? When we join the church, or when anyone else joins, we affirm our commitment to be a disciple for Christ at Euless First United Methodist Church and, we pledge to uphold the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. We decide to bring all the ingredients of ourselves so that we can follow Jesus together a bit better today than yesterday!
Euless First is a place full of salt of the earth people. In the Bible, salt has come to symbolize purity, perfection, wisdom, hospitality, durability, and fidelity. We are a community that embraces these qualities in our passion for loving each other. In 2018 we doubled the number of kids that participated in Vacation Bible School and, we started a new adult Sunday School class that is thoughtfully growing in faith together. 2018 has been a great year of ministry, and we are gearing up to move so that we can reach more people!
October brings forth our annual stewardship campaign, and time to “stew” on all that we bring to God. God has given us so much!
Just like a good chef, we must take the time to see that all the ingredients for a recipe are of good quality and, we too must take time to check ourselves and all that we bring to God. Are you bringing your best? Do our gifts reflect the generosity of God and this community?
Join us in October, as we look at all we promise with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Together we will “stew” on these qualities that make up this amazing congregation, and how we can challenge and grow in our faith as we look forward to a fantastic future. We are the salt of the earth, may our lives reflect that flavor to its fullest.
While we know everyday is a day for prayer we will have several events during this season to encourage our community to pray for our church. We have a lot of change going on and coming with the impending purchase and sale of property. Let us be in prayer about where God is calling us. For our leaders to hear God, and for us all to listen even when we are unsure of our direction. Each week we will highlight a different prayer practice, including praying on the hours, lecto devino, and fasting. We will have the sanctuary open every morning October 1-5 from 7:30—9:00 a.m. for prayer. There will be a prayer vigil beginning October 27 at 5:30 p.m. and ending October 28 at 5:30 p.m. at an Evening Vespers Service.
Then on October 21 we will be focusing on service as we pack 10,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger. This fun intergenerational event helps us to focus on others, and serve as a family. All are welcome to come pack meals from 8:30-11:00 a.m. People are needed to set up at 8:00 a.m.
Finally, join us on November 4th for a celebration dinner of Stew and cornbread. We are a congregation that has so much to celebrate. We have beautiful relationships, and ministries that are full of heart. Join as we take time to come together to celebrate what God is doing right here at Euless First United Methodist Church.
