SATURDAY, DECEMBER 22                         PSALM 80:1-7                                  CARLA FINK
Shepherd of Israel, listen! You, the one who leads Joseph as if he were a sheep. You, who are enthroned upon the winged
heavenly creatures. Show yourself 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh! Wake up your power! Come to save us!
3 Restore us, God! Make your face shine so that we can be saved! 4 LORD God of heavenly forces, how long will you fume
against your people’s prayer? 5 You’ve fed them bread made of tears; you’ve given them tears to drink three times over!
6 You’ve put us at odds with our neighbors; our enemies make fun of us. 7 Restore us, God of heavenly forces! Make your face
shine so that we can be saved!

I’ve never been great at clothes shopping for myself. I know what colors I like, and I know what’s comfortable for me to
wear. But I’m not that good at shopping for clothes that I will look good in. My husband used to buy things for me for my
birthday or Christmas, and he did it without consulting me. The amazing thing is that he could pick out just the right color
and style that would look great on me. They were rarely things that I would have chosen myself. I was often uncertain of his
choice at first. But they inevitably ended up being my favorites because they were the right fit and color for me.

God’s gifts to us are sometimes this way. We may not like the gift we are given; we want something more comfortable, or
something that looks more like what we are used to having. But God knows what we need, and he gives us gifts
accordingly. And if we accept his gifts and use them as intended, they can end up being our favorites because they were the
right choice for us.

Prayer: For family, however that might look.
